Construction Update: Phase One Is Underway at Cherry Creek West
01/26/2026
We’re excited to officially kick off early construction work at Cherry Creek West! After years of planning and preparation, the project is moving from vision to reality, starting with demolition of the building where Elway’s, Brio and Container Store used to be and the building formerly holding Macy’s furniture and Boulder Running Company this March.
This construction update section will be your go-to source for what’s happening at the site. We plan to post regular monthly updates here, sharing what work is underway and what’s coming next. Our goal is to keep the Cherry Creek community informed every step of the way.
If you have questions along the way, we welcome them. Our project superintendent is Matt Johnson (cell: 303-917-7511) or you are welcome to reach out to our project team at info@cherrycreekwest.com.
What’s Happening First
As with many redevelopment projects, the first phase of work focuses on preparing the site safely and responsibly for demolition and future construction. One of the initial activities you may hear about is asbestos abatement. In simple terms, this means carefully removing certain materials from existing buildings that require special handling before demolition can begin. This work is standard, highly regulated, and an important step to ensure safety for workers and the surrounding community. This work has been ongoing since Fall 2025, and we anticipate that this abatement work will be complete in early February 2026. Then, we will disconnect the utilities serving those vacant buildings prior to demolition.
In addition to abatement activities, you’ll start to see other early-site preparations taking place, including the installation of perimeter fencing. Concurrent with commencing fencing, we will close the existing surface lots to public parkers. All construction parking for this demolition phase will be located within the construction fencing and will not be in the surrounding neighborhoods or mall parking garage.
We will be maintaining one of the existing buildings on the site. The former Bed Bath & Beyond building will remain and serve as a temporary construction office for Phase 1.
We’re thrilled to be moving forward and grateful for the community’s interest and patience as work gets underway. Be sure to check back regularly for more construction updates and progress highlights as Cherry Creek West continues to take shape.
